Shelter Nova Scotia is celebrating its official launch of a new 19 unit building on the corner of Cunard and Gottigen Street.

It’s all being made possible by a partnership between the federal and provincial government.

The supportive housing facility named The Rebuilding has staff on call 24-seven and takes in men from Metro Turning Point Shelter.

Community Services Minister Joanne Bernard said an investment of $475,000 through the Affordable Housing Program, helped purchase the land and subsidize rent so money can be reinvested into Shelter Nova Scotia.

Bernard said shelters like The Rebuilding play a vital role in our community.

“I understand the need for emergency housing in terms of shelters,” said Bernard, “But shelters like this facility help people move forward with their lives.”

She says to walk into one of the units at The Rebuilding knowing that the occupant is coming from complete homelessness is incredibly powerful.

Bernard added a sense of community is built quickly within housing facilities because of that shared experience between residents.
